Trixie loves spring! All of the delicious smells popping out of the snow, and especially the mud. Hitty Rose has saved her allowance and bought Trixie her very own rain hat and doggie rain coat, but Trixie isn't much impressed. She would rather race across the melting snow and pounce on sticks. Her favorite chew toy turned up! Trixie had lost it last winter, and it stayed buried under the snow until the melt. Mother says that the rope chew toy has to be hung on the clothesline until it is dried out, and then Trixie can bring it back inside.

Hitty Rose is not looking forward to a rite of spring that involves Trixie. Soon, her mother will give her a bucket and a shovel, and Hitty Rose will have to go all over the yard and remove any messes Trixie has made during the winter. Ugh! But it has to be done, and she knows it is part of the price of having such a fabulous pup like Trixie.

She is also responsible for teaching Trixie to wipe her paws before coming into the house. She has an old towel on the porch, and when they come in, Hitty Rose wipes off her feet. Then Trixie gets a treat. Soon, Trixie will wipe her feet all on her own...Hity Rose is sure of it!
